Our Lessons at Baby Class

I was going to post this yesterday, but for some reason I was unable to log into my account. In any event, here is the scoop on baby class...

We all had our little doll babies with a diaper, washcloth, towel, and blanket. We learned how to clean the baby for the first few weeks until the umbilical cord falls off. Good thing too, because neither of us knew that the baby could not be submerged in water until that time. I'm sure I would have come to that part in the book though!

We diapered the baby and learned how to swaddle them. The teacher told us for the first few weeks it's best to put the baby in the bassinet swaddled as opposed to limbs flailing. They feel more secure this way.

There was a slideshow with photos of different skin conditions and imperfections that the baby may have at birth or in the weeks thereafter. I don't remember all of them off the top of my head, but I'm sure if something comes up now I can say I saw that in class. They were just the regular type of things that you should know about so you are not bothering your doctor with unnecessary problems.

We also watched a video that gave us a plethora of information on everything from breastfeeding, SIDS, and what to expect in a diaper. (You should have seen Dan's face on that part!) The teacher also had a discussion on the recovery time for mothers after delivery. I was glad she delved into this because I don't want there being any tension between Dan and I when he comes home from work and nothing is done.

An interesting fact: Did you know you burn over 2,000 calories a day while breastfeeding?? I can't believe that. That's more calories than I eat each day! By the time this baby is 6 months old, I will be 80 pounds! Talk about a great diet plan!!!
