Movin' on from Movies

Last night, Dan and I decided to go to the movies since we haven't done too much together lately. I think we have pretty much decided that all movies are worth waiting for and if it doesn't show up at the $2.50 theatre, then we can live without seeing it.

We went to see Exorcist, The Beginning. While seeing the faces of demons and thoughts of possession by the devil is still enough to freak me out, I was quite disappointed with the film. It seems that all (or most) films these days are relying solely upon special effects, scenery, and graphics to capture our interest of the movie. With all the major technological advances in these areas, who needs to worry about storyline, cast, and script. It's all just about eye candy. Which was not even that impressive in this film either. I wasn't nearly as scared as I thought I would be (as the original still gives me nightmares), and I was hoping the script would lean into a deeper explanation of the fight between heaven and hell. But no! All anticipation and expectations of any movies these days are just halted.

Writers and directors have worn out so many decent plots with bad scripts and acting that their only attempt at decent movies is to remake, sequel, prequel, or borrow from a book. Half the time, the movies aren't even as good as the books anyway. Why don't we all just read more. If we boycott Hollywood, maybe people like Bennifer wouldn't get so much underserved attention and financial compensation for crappy films. So, what do you say people?? Let's take a stand and all move away from the movies!! It's the only way the maybe someday somebody will wake up and realize we are not just a bunch of brainless masses who will spend too much money to see the newest pieces of crap. They show us all of the best parts in the preview anyway. You can pretty much determine your own storyline from there. It's called imagination. We all used to have it once. There was a time when we didn't need someone to tell us how the story went. And if you ask me, they're not doing a very good job with the story-telling anyway!

Don't mind me, just my "Leonard Maltin" moment of the day!
