Welcome to Week #23!

I can sure feel the peanut getting bigger, just by the weight gain and the movement inside. S/he must be running out of space! Here's what's going on:

Your baby weighs about a pound at the end of this week! The body is becoming better proportioned each day, and the bones of the middle ear begin to harden. Your baby's lungs have begun to develop surfactant, a substance that will help your baby's lungs to expand following birth. And his or her fingernails are now completely formed. If born now, your baby has a chance for survival. Let's hope, however, that the baby stays put for several more weeks!

Uh, yeah... let's hope the baby stays put for about 18 more weeks! It all still seems a little surreal and I think I have to sit down and really get used to the fact that I'm going to be a mother. Wow!
